A 70-year-old Tucson, Ariz., man has been charged with attempting to rob the Lenexa post office Wednesday morning.
The suspect was charged this afternoon in federal court. Authorities say he walked into the post office at Monrovia and 88th streets, said he had a bomb strapped to his body and demanded a worker fill a plastic bag with cash.
When the worker turned away from the counter, authorities say the suspect left the post office. A few minutes later he turned himself in at the Lenexa Police Department. Police didn’t find any explosives at the post office, in his vehicle or at the place he was staying.
Though Neva lives in Arizona, authorities say he has ties to Lenexa.
