"The Oxford Plaza is a new construction development that will create 97 apartments, all of which will be affordable to low-income individuals and families, and will be within walking distance of BART, UC Berkeley, public schools, the library, YMCA, the Farmers Market, retail stores, restaurants, and a growing arts district. The overall mission of the Oxford Plaza project is to build a residential community that is a thriving contribution to downtown Berkeley; to create a resource for empowerment for Berkeley's low-income families and individuals; and to serve as a model for sustainable development. The Oxford Plaza is also part of a dynamic mixed-use project that includes creating a world-class environmental center, the David Brower Center, developing mission driven retail and commercial space, and providing a below grade public parking garage.

The housing component will consist of 96 affordable housing units to support extremely low-income households at 20%-30% AMI, as well as providing units up to 60% AMI to support working families and individuals. The building will also consist of a range of unit types from Studios to 3 Bedroom units to accommodate the needs of a variety of household types from disabled and/or Seniors to large, low-income families.

The Oxford Plaza also represents a model in green design and sustainable building. The primary crux of this accomplishment is its location. The project site is an infill site that is already developed along existing utilities, public transit corridors, and within walking distance of an amazing array of employment, shopping, recreational, educational, and entertainment resources. The design and construction of the project will build on this foundation by incorporating design techniques that promote high energy efficiency, improved indoor air quality, and minimization of resource utilization and waste production."
