George Morgan - Grave of a Famous Person on Waymarking.com

George Morgan grew up in Ohio and was one of the early stars of the WWVA Wheeling Jamboree and was a member of WSM's Grand Ole Opry. His first and only Number 1 hit, "Candy Kisses," vaulted him first to the Wheeling Jamboree stage and then to the stage of the Grand Ole Opry. In 1974 George Morgan was the last person to sing on the Opry in the Ryman Auditorium, and the next Saturday Night was to first person to sing on the stage of the New Opry House at Opryland. George Morgan died on July 7th, 1975 and is buried in Spring Hill Cemetery in Nashville, Tennessee.

Description: George Morgan was born on June 28, 1924 in Waverly, Tennessee and his family moved to Barberton, Ohio where her grew to become on of the stars of Country Music. George Morgan is perhaps best remembered for is first and only Number 1 hit “Candy Kisses.” He had other popular country hits including “Room Full of Roses.” And “Red Roses from the Blue Side of Town.” After he wrote “Candy Kisses” he when on to star on WWVA’s Wheeling Jamboree an in 1948 he became a full cast member of the Grand Ole Opry. George Morgan is the father of Country Music Star Lorrie Morgan and had to pleasure to witness his then 13-year old daughter perform on the Opry Stage. In 1974 George Morgan was the last person to sing on the stage of the Ryman Auitorium, before the Grand Ole Opry mover to the New Grand Ole Opry House at Opryland, and a week later on he first person to sing on the Stage of the New Grand Ole Opry House. In 1998, George Morgan was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. George Morgan died on July 7, 1975 of complication from open-heart surgery. He is buried in Spring Hill Cemetery in Nashville, Tennessee.
