Maria Longworth Nichols Storer founded the Rookwood Pottery, along with a friend, in the late 1870s. She combined a variety of glazing techniques and painting of images to produce an unique artistic finish. This celebrated pottery was produced here from the 1880s through the 1940s. It is highly sought after even today.

Besides the well known pottery, they also produced tile and other architectural features. Many fireplaces from this era were surrounded by glazed Rookwood tiles. See the photos for some examples of these other products inside the building.

Various images of Rookwood pottery can be found here:

The building was converted in the 1980s into an office building, with the factory area made into a restaurant. The restaurant still has the old kilns, which have been converted into seating areas. The restaurant changed hands recently.

A new company was formed in 2006 to continue manufacturing tile and other items using the original molds and recipes, and using the Rookwood Pottery name.
