The West Nyack Fire Department was founded in 1910 and it's first Fire Chief was Charles Harele. Chief Harele owned the horses that pulled the engines they used in those days. On 9-11-01 the members of the West Nyack Fire Department responded as well did numerous Rockland County Fire Departments. The West Nyack FD has lost one member of service since it's inception. The West Nyack FD also lost one of there own on 9-11-01 (FDNY Rescue 3 FF Tom Foley).
