The sundial is at the center of a large mural painted on the outside wall of the Wautoma Public Library. The face of the sundial is vertical rather than the usual horizontal face seen on most sundials. It was cloudy the day I was there so I was not able to see the dial in action, but it does actually work.
The gnomon or style of the sundial is a triangular plate with the shape of a butterfly cut out of it.
The mural was done in 1999 and was designed and drawn by Robin Wallenfang Seibert. The actual painting was done by over 100 volunteers doing a "paint-by-numbers" on the artist's drawing. The top of the mural shows the 28 phases of the moon. The rest of the mural is divided into 4 sections, each depicting a different scene from each season. Dividing the sections are columns marking the equinoxes and solstices.
Sundial Type: Vertical - Wall mounted dial plate
