The first building to occupy the site of the depot was a Carnegie funded library built in 1905. As library services expanded the city built a new library in 1913 and sold the building and site to the Canadian National Railroad which moved the library and built this depot. The depot was built for the Duluth, Winnipeg, and Pacific Railway which was a subsidiary company of the Canadian National Railroad. The depot was used until the late 1950's when it was converted to a bank.
