This building has definite Deco lines, but near the top the design is more gothic with ornamentation and statuary of Native Americans.
Pontiac State Bank was purchased by the National Bank of Detroit, which merged with the First National Bank of Chicago, which merged with Bank One and was then purchased by JP Morgan Chase. Somewhere along that train ride, this building was sold to a private investor who rents it for retail and office space.
The city of Pontiac is named for Chief Pontiac, an Ottawa leader who fought against the British victory in the French and Indian War. He was famous for his role in the post war struggle of the American Indians against the British occupation of the Great Lakes region.
