Fold Gate is south of Hawkshead on the Newby Bridge road, and embedded in the slate wall is a Victorian Post box with a rare rounded top.

Apparently post boxes of this age are rarer with rounded tops, rather than the more common square shaped boxes. This is because this lampbox should have been attached to a lamp post or telegraph pole. Royal Mail rarely remove boxes embedded in walls. The maker's name would be on the back, if at all. Only one foundry made lampboxes between 1896 - 1901.
