McHenry
County, in the central part of North Dakota, was formed in 1873. It was
originally part of Buffalo County. The McHenry County Courthouse was built in
1907 to replace an earlier one which burned in April, 1905. The courthouse was
designed by Buechner & Orth in a Beaux Arts style. (Buechner & Orth designed
many public buildings in Minnesota and the Dakota's in the early 1900's.) The
building continues to serve as the county courthouse.
