Stretching across the southern tip of South Padre Island, from the Gulf of Mexico to the Laguna Madre, is the heavily developed Isla Blanca Park. The beach here is as beautiful as the rest of the island, and the events seem endless.

At the core of Isla Blanca are literally hundreds of open camping spaces. The periphery is lined by huge sand dunes. Like the rest of the Gulf, the sand gradually slopes into the warm sea, but, if you’re familiar with Texas’ northern Gulf beaches, the beach here will surprise you; the sand is white and the water is clear.

Hidden among the dunes are picnic pavilions, restrooms, concessions, playgrounds, day-use cabanas, and the Pan-American University’s Coastal Studies Laboratory. An asphalt hike-and-bike trail encircles the entire park. At the southern extreme of the park, called Well’s Point, the jetty plunging into the Gulf to protect the opening of Brazos Santiago Pass is a favorite spot for fishing or dolphin-watching. A statue of Christ, El Cristo de los Pescadores, rises at the tip of the island. Towards the Laguna Madre is the Dolphin Cove Oyster Bar. Like the name implies, dolphins can often be seen from the deck.
