In 1987, just before its centennial year, the Johnson County Courthouse in Tecumseh made its television debut serving as a backdrop for scenes in the ABC miniseries "Amerika." The Romanesque style building was constructed in 1889, replacing the second of two earlier courthouses which occupied the same site. The white trimmed, red brick structure is symmetrical with four corner turrets, side porticoes and a tall central domed spire. It was placed on the National register of Historic places in 1990.
