This oblelisk was placed in 1904 by Monroe's Civic Improvement Society to honor this War of 1812 battlefield along the River Raisin. The inscription on the plaque reads as follows:
800 Americans under Cols. Allwn Lewis and Wells fought despearately against 3000 British and Allies under Gen. Proctor. Forced to surrender, though promised British protection, the prisoners, left unguarded were attacked and killed by the Indians.
