Evgeny Vakhtangov's 1921 innovative avant garde production of Gozzi's play, "Turandot" is a milestone of Russian Theater. This golden Princess Turandot sits atop a fountain on Old Arbat Street by the theater bearing Vakhtangov's name. His production of Turandot is still performed here. The street, once a prestigious residential area, has become a tourist mall with many souvenir shops and stalls, restaurants and entertainment venues.
