To find the Tomb of the Unknowns, first find this building, then make your way around to the front. But you might want to explore the amphitheater first. The cornerstone was laid by President Woodrow Wilson in 1915. The cornerstone was filled with items, such as maps of Washington, D.C., that might go into a time capsule today.
Each year, three services are held in the amphitheater to honor America’s soldiers - an Easter service at 6am; a Memorial Day service at 11am; and a Veterans Day service at 11am. State funerals are also occasionally held in the amphitheater.
The front of the building overlooks the Tomb of the Unknowns with Washington, D.C. in the background. Here you will find the gallery containing the awards and honors bestowed upon the Unknown Soldiers.
