Beautiful figurative sculpture in Spring Grove Cemetery in Wisconsin Dells. There is no plaque or memorial marker for this sculpture. He could represent many of the Union Soldiers of the 36th Wisconsin Infantry who lost their lives in a battle near Richmond, Virginia and now one remains to watch over Belle Boyd or he may represent the drunken Union Soldier who on July 4, 1861, broke into Belle Boyd's parent's home in Martinsburg, intent on raising the U. S. flag over the house, when he insulted her mother, Belle drew a pistol and killed him. She was 17 years old. An amazing sculpture worth a visit if you travel to Wisconsin Dells.
