The New Hanover County Courthouse was built beginning in 1892 with its cornerstone being laid April 20, 1892. The court first met in on April 17, 1893. The Queen Anne style courthouse was designed by A.S. Eichberg of Savannah, Georgia. Building was built for a total cost of $72,000.
The courthouse was renovated in 1986 and was rededicated 1988.
