The beautifully landscaped gardens feature 17 contemporary installations, and a fountain that turns into a skating rink come winter. It also contains one of the few decent places to eat on the Mall.

In a deal with the National Park Service, the National Gallery of Art was allowed to locate their sculpture garden on 6.1 acres directly across from the National Archives in 1991. One of the best parts of the Garden is the Pavilion Café - large glass windows look out on the sculpture garden, and if it’s nice out you can sit outside. The Café serves sandwiches, salads, wine, coffee, and awesome deserts. It’s one of only two decent places to eat on the Mall (the other being the National Gallery’s cafeteria).
