Salado Creek Fly Fishing. I recommend going downstream about .25 mile to the nearby park on the northern bank(where the channel gets about 3 feet deep) or near the bridge (the posted coordinates).

Back in the hey-day, Stagecoach Inn built two ponds off the creek to the west of these coordinates (on the other side of the bridge) for fishing. You will find quite a number of typical rod and bobber folks fishing, and an occassional net-tosser. However, on the numerous times I've fly-fished and visited this creek, I'm the only one that prefers fly fishing. I normally draw a small crowd of observers watching my art, too. I've never noticed anyone using other techinques actually catch anything, but I bring them in one after another.
Recommended tackle: Fly rod, mosquito-sized dry fly (brown with a tocuh of red seems effective) with a 15 or 16 hook.

Recommended fishing methods:
Fly fishing! Why would anyone want to apply any other method on a stream or creek?!?!? Texas license required for any fishing in Texas, so ensure you have your license (free, by the way, for active duty military!). The trout (I have caught brown and rainbow) and bream in this creek prefer brown mosquito flys, size 15 or 16 hook, dry fly. A 1lb tippet will be sufficient for the 5-9 inch fish in the stream. I've caught 2-3 pound fish, but was easily able to work them in with a 1lb lead. Best to stand on the northern bank in the park and cast to the opposite bank, allow the fly to drift about 10 feet with the current, then sink the fly about 1 inch.
