Theses buildings (which were 1 building...read on) date back to around 1850 - built for Philadelphia chemist William Weightman, Sr. on the corner of Franklin & Washington Streets. He decided in 1881 to move the building closer to the ocean - the movers decided to cut the building into 2 halves to make the trip easier...and the 2 halves have remained apart ever since, as they were unable at the time to put them back together.
The buildings had various uses at the second location until a storm in 1962. At that time the houses were moved to Trenton Ave. & were used to house students.
From 1987 to 1988, the buildings were left vacant - until rescued & restored by the Girton family in 1989. It has operated as a B&B since then, and has been continually upgraded and rennovated. A sign in front of House # 5 notes that the Angel of the Sea has been recognized as one of the top 2 B&B's in North America.
