St. Augustine Catholic parish was founded July 21, 1911, when Bishop Legal, who was at that time Bishop for the whole of Alberta, blessed a new wooden church on the south side of Taber and dedicated it to St. Augustine, Bishop, Confessor and Doctor. By the mid 1940's a larger church was needed however funds for a new church were low, the new church was finally completed in the spring of 1950 and was dedicated May 28, 1950.
