Built in 1901, St. John's is a fine example of German architecture with stained glass windows and arches. It has one of the oldest pipe organs west of the Mississippi River.

St. John's Leopold Church, was built in the year of 1899. Work was begun in the spring. The church was built in pure Gothic style from native limestone found around and near the town. Parishioners of St. John's did most of the work on the church themselves. The church has undergone many interior changes.

There is a Marian shrine located across the street from the church.
