The pavement of the Odeon was laid with the most beautiful marble from all over the Empire.
The geometric composition brought together the most expensive colored stone in the Roman world : green porphery from Greece, red porphery from Egypt, granite from Egypt, yellow marble from Africa, and violet and red marble from Asia minor. The presence of such materials reveals the prestigious character of the monument. It allows us to imagine the luxury which the edifice offered before being transformed into a quarry to the 5th century A.D.
