HOWARD'S CORPS AT NANCY'S CREEK
July 18, 1864. The 4th A.C. marching from Crossroads Church to Buckhead, encountered a spirited opposition by Confederate cavalry & artillery S. of Mt. Paren Rd. On reaching the creek Newton’s head of column found that the bridge had been burned & Col. Williams’ brigade was posted on the ridge S. of the creek. Newton brought up his artillery which covered the crossing of his skirmishers, supported by the 13th N.J. & 82d Ohio (20th A.C. regts.); passage was effected. Williams’ was dispersed & Howard’s A.C. continued to Buckhead.
