Originally, this truss bridge was used for auto traffic crossing the Little Cahaba River in the Happy Hollow community. When the bridge was replaced with a modern concrete bridge, the old bridge was moved several miles to Trussville's Civitan Park to be used as a pedestrian bridge over a different part of the Cahaba. Local citizens who contributed to the restoration project were honored with their names engraved on the bridge's new planks.
The Happy Hollow District Bridge is listed on the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage.
