The CNHS plaque reads as follows:

Frank Oliver 1853 - 1933
Journalist and politician, born near Brampton, Ontario, Upper Canada, Oliver came west in 1873 and, after bringing a printing press overland by Red River cart, founded the Edmonton Bulletin in 1880. He was a member of the North-West Territories Council (1993-1885) and of the legislative assembly (1888-1896). He was an advocate of territorial self-government and of western immigration, causes which he championed as a member of parliament (1896-1917) and Minister of the Interior (1905-1911). He died at Ottawa.
