After finding the Big Bottom/Tad benchmark discussed in the groundspeak forums - I went to find another tonight: Coco. My wife came along on her first benchmark hunt and while I was looking around at the site I heard her say "here it is" and my heart started racing. Sure enough she was right. It was damaged, however 1/2 the disk was still firmly in place in the stone that has not budged in 51 years (elevation based on GPS 674ft). Then, I looked over - and I saw this very very tall, twin sycamore tree - and it was HUGE. This is where the entry prior to Coco on the USGS sheet indicated a reference mark was placed, along with paint. After a reasonable search without a metal detector - I gave up on finding the mark. There is definately no paint visible - nor was the mark. No matter - as the excitement of finding what was probably not that big a tree all those years ago was unbelievable. I was thrilled to find the benchmark - and my wife more enjoyed the area - and her thoughts of the train going by, what it must have looked like in the area all those years ago etc.
