Tilikum Place Fountain - Fountains on Waymarking.com

The fountain in Tikilum Place has a surprisingly long history. Planned as early as 1905, the statue in the middle of the fountain, sculpted by James A. Wehn, would not be unveiled until November 13, 1912, on the anniversary of the landing of pioneers at Seattle. The fountain and statue were the subject of much controversy - several proposals over the years suggested moving it to a more prominent location, but it stayed put. The bear-headed water jets were turned off in 1920 and not reactivated until the early 1960s, for the World's Fair in Seattle. The statue, fountain, and park were renovated and rededicated in 1975.
