From 1955 until 1961 Ajax and Hercules missiles were ready to launch from this site on the Saddle Mountains. The site is spread out over a large area with the control area on top of Saddle Mountain and the launch areas on the plain below the mountain on the bank of the Columbia River. There are 4 Nike sites in the area and were used to protect the Hanford Nuclear Reserevation from attack and spying. H-06 is accessible from Hiway 24 from 2 roads but the other 3 are closed off to the public. The drive to the top of Saddle Mt. is a good paved road. The entrances to H-06 are both off of Hiway 24 and are on the Hanford Reach National Monument & Saddle Mountain National Wildlife Refuge. Most of the concrete and paved area are grown over but in walking and driving over the area they become visible.
