Sadly this seems to have been forgotten by most. This Convair CV-580 crashed on March 5, 1967.

There is no memorial plaque or anything at the site of this airline accident, even though all 38 people aboard the flight were killed in the accident.
On March 5, 1967, Lake Central Airlines Flight 527 left Chicago, IL, bound for Detroit, MI. The flight had scheduled stops including Lafayette, IN, Cincinnati, OH, Columbus, OH and Toledo, OH. During its leg from Columbus to Toledo, at about 8:05pm the flight was cleared to begin its descent from 10,000 feet to 6,000 ft on its approach to Toledo. About this time a manufacturer defect in the Convair CV-580caused the torque cylinder in the right engine to fail. In turn the prop pressure oil was lost, the propeller oversped and all four of the blades separated. The number 2 blade entered the fuselage, ripping it apart. The failure of the fuselage and engine both caused the plane to crash.
The plane hit in a rural area outside of Marseilles, Ohio in a couple of farm fields. Debris was found on both sides of Township Highway 94, north of County Rd 100/Twp Hwy 7. The debris was removed. Anything that might have been missed has since been plowed under the fields over the years.
The model of this plane seems to be up for debate. Some information lists it as a Convair CV-340, while others have it as a Convair CV-580, the confusion seems to come from the fact that the tail number N73130 was used on both a 340 and a 580. Lake Central Airlines did use both models, but the official NTSB report shows it to be a 340.
