Construction on Chickamauga Dam was started in 1936 and completed in 1940. It is located in Hamilton County in the U.S. state of Tennessee within the city limits of Chattanooga. It impounds Chickamauga Lake and feeds into Nickajack Lake. It is one of nine Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) dams on the Tennessee River, is 5800 feet long and 129 feet high.
The Wilkes T. Thrasher Bridge carries Tennessee state route 153 above the length of the dam.
It was named after the Chickamauga (tribe) of Cherokee Indians who used to live in the area.
