The funding for the Chadron Public Library was obtained from Andrew Carnegie after Chadron Mayor Finnegan wrote a letter requesting funding in 1910. The funding came with two requirements, the community must provide a minimum funding of $500 annually to fund the library and must provide a suitable lot for the library. The library opened February 13, 1912. The building is a two story, light colored brick building with little ornamentation. The library was renovated and expanded in 1964 and continues to serve as the community of Chadron as their public library. The Chadron Public Library was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.
