Mineralbad Berg was opened in 1856 by the royal gardener Friedrich Neuener. The more rustic of the 3 mineral baths run by the city of Stuttgart, it caters to the more "stoic" bather.

It represents the oldest swimming pool in Stuttgart. For a long time it was even the largest mineral pool in Germany. 5 million liters per day from 5 springs flow into the indoor and outdoor pool.
Although the indoor and outdoor pools are unheated and a brisk 22° C, it is a popular spot on warm summer days. The indoor pool, although cold, is modern and the water is clear. The outdoor pool is more rustic and the water is cloudy and has a distinct iron smell. The spring water from the Berger Urquell flows directly from the ground below the pool up through a spout in the middle of the pool. The water requires no special treatment (chlorination, etc.) due to the rapid discharge. The water is recognized by the state as a "Heilbad" for its medicinal properties.
A heated indoor "movement" pool is warmed to 32° but closes early on week-ends.
The bath also has an outdoor cafe which serves typical German biergarten fare.
There is no limit to the amount of time you can spend on the premises.
How does a visit work?
Come prepared with swimsuit, towel, and shower soap as these are not provided. When you enter the facility, you will see a counter where you pay the entrance fee which is €6.50 for unlimited time (but does not include access to the heated "movement" pool for which you pay €2.80 extra). You will receive a paper receipt which you don't need anymore after entering the bath.
Proceed to the right of the counter to the changing area where there are a number of "antique" wooden changing cabins. Women may go up the stairs where a space is reserved for them.
You walk in on one side of the cabin, change your clothes, and then walk out the other side. The cabin doors are locked while inside by a lever on the door.
Once outside of the changing cabin, you can give your belongings to an attendent for safekeeping. You get a token which identifies your belongings when you want to get them back.
Don't forget to take a shower before entering the pools. The showers and toilettes are located at the far end of the changing room building.
