Construction of the Santa Cruz Harbor (what is now the south harbor) began in 1962 and was completed in 1964. This compass rose is inlaid into a walkway that runs along the eastern side of the inlet to the harbor. There are always lots of activities going on here and there are some nearby shops and restaurants to visit. Nearby, on the beach side of the shops is a human sundail inlaid into the walkway that is also worth a visit. On the western side of the inlet you can walk out to the lighthouse and sometimes watch surfers who often ride the waves that break in front of the inlet's jetty.
