Built of local materials in 1828, this vernacular Greek Revival house was erected by U.S. Senator Walter Lowrie. Although Greek Revival was the style of choice prior to 1850, this is the last remaining example in the Butler area.

Senator Lowrie served from 1812 to 1818, and was Pennsylvania’s only senator from Butler. Isabelle Shaw donated the house to the Butler Historical Society in 1986. The society has restored the house to its original state, including period furnishings. Tours of the house are offered on Sundays from 1pm to 3pm and Wednesdays from 11am to 1pm, but only from May through August. Admission is $3 adults/$1 children.
