John Bower was a local merchant and taylor. His daughters married well. One married industrialist Edwin Ohl, building a mansion around the corner on East Lincoln; the other married banker Mathais Holstein Henderson, building a mansion at the corner of East Lincoln and Highland Avenue. Both, as you'll soon see, are red-brick Queen Annes.
