George Greer initiated New Castle’s industrial development in the 1890s with the building of the New Castle Steel and Tin Plate Company. Decorative glass – both stained and leaded – is used in the windows, transoms and sidelights; Ionic columns support the off-set front porch. Architect Frank Foulke, son of prominent regional architect S.W. Foulke, designed the mansion. The Clavelli family donated the house to the Lawrence County Historical Society in 1982.
