On March 16, 1978 at 9 p.m., the pétroler bast Amoco
Cadiz, chartered by the Standard company Oil of Indiana, was failed, at the end
of a long drift in the North of Ushant, on the rocks of Men Goulven, the entry
of Portsall. From its compartments 220.000 tons were going unrelentingly to
escape from oil, polluting all the coast of Northern Finistere, of Conquet with
Bréhat.
Twenty years after this tragic episode, if the
granite rocks found their superb in the blancheurde scum, if the beaches smell
still good hot sand in full heart of the summer, if the seagulls and the gannet
survived disgrace, and if the men set up, as with the point of Corsen and in
Ushant, of the devices of monitoring of the traffic, the shipwreck marked the
spirits and remains attached to this coast like a curse. The anchor of the
tanker exposed on the quay like a relic “croche” for always in our reports.
