This dressed-up Paul Bunyan muffler man can be found in the back yard area of the Fort Cody Trading Post. He was one of the men featured in the Smithsonian Magazine and the trading post has a framed copy of info about muffler men.
They've taken a Paul and painted him to look like an Indian muffler man. He has one hand up and one down and wears a loincloth and a headband with a feather. Attached to the headband are braids to look like his hair.
The following was written by the the daughter of the owner of the Trading Post and was found on roadsideamerica.com:
My father-in-law was in a bar in the late '60s and so was the owner of a Muffler Man-equipped gas station across from Fort Cody. They both became quite inebriated and the gas station guy told my father in law he was sick of that dang Muffler Man and wanted to get rid of it. So, my father-in-law offered him $100 and they shook hands on it.
The next morning my father-in-law got to work, and there was the Muffler Man laying in his parking lot! The gas station owner evidently THAT NIGHT drug that poor Muffler Man across Hwy 83 and dumped him in the parking lot!
