When this cafe - formerly a petrol station with the roof standing on just 4 legs - was built in the 50's it was rated as a building of national significance.
This building in Nottinghamshire is one of the neatest of his solutions to the challenge of a shape known as a hyperbolic paraboloid or hypar, a mixture of cones and curves which became a practical possibility thanks to 20th-century building materials.
The Roof of the building is made up of Hyperbolic Paraboloids joined to form a larger whole.
I met Sam Scorer, the architect, when in his late 70's. Still challenging and with a lively mind. Shame he's gone.
