The bronze statue of Francis Russell (1788-1861), the seventh Duke of Bedford. The Duke was responsible for remodeling Tavistock and funding the construction of many of the stone public buildings around the Square, such as the Guildhall, Police Station and Pannier Market, and many buildings still standing in Duke Street, as well as hundreds of cottages for mine workers, all in a distinctive style.
