Y Mountain may not be as tall as some of its neighboring mountains, but it is still a challenging climb to reach the summit. The mountain gets its name because of the large letter "Y" that graces its western face, which was placed there by Brigham Young University in 1906.  The hike to the summit begins at the trailhead for the hike up to the Y: N 40° 14.690, W 111° 37.630 From the top of the Y (N 40° 14.891, W 111° 37.199), the trail continues up the mountain in a SE direction and then turns to the East up Slide Canyon. The trail eventually reaches a flat, and continues in a generally eastward direction. The trail to the summit turns off to the northwest at N 40° 14.858, W 111° 36.228. At the "saddle" you have a choice: If you follow the clearly defined trail to the west that will take you to the more popular, albeit lower, western peak.  It is a more popular destination because of the expansive views of the valley that one gets from that summit.  However, the posted coordinates will point you to the "true" summit to the east, some 40 feet higher than the west peak.

Total elevation gain from the trailhead to the summit is approximately 3400 feet, and the total distance for the hike is approximately 6 miles round-trip.
Altitude in Feet: 8568
