A plaque at the base of the bell reads as follows:
"This bell is given to Forest Lawn Cemetery in loving memory of John Roffo Oishei. A lifelong resident of Buffalo, industrialist & philanthropist, by his daughter, Patricia Oishei Colby. Laudate dominum omnes gentes.

The Rt. Rev. John Timon, first bishop of Buffalo, commissioned for St. Joseph's Cathedral in 1866 a carillon of 43 bells from Bollé, Père & Fils of Mans, France. This bell was the second largest and weighs 1.5 tons. The Latin inscription comes from Psalm CXVII and means Praise the Lord All Ye Nations.
