In the spring of 1880, Robert Louis Stevenson brought his bride to Silverado. He and Fannie Osbourne Stevenson lived here from May 19 until July, while he gathered the notes for Silverado Squatters.

The marker reads:

This tablet placed by the club women of Napa County marks the site of the cabin occupied in 1880 by Robert Louis Stevenson and bride while he wrote "Silverado Squatters.

Doomed to know not Winter only Spring, a being trod the flowery April blithely for a while took his fill of music, joy of thought and seeing came and stayed and went nor ever ceased to smile.

Robert Louis Stevenson.
