Narrative Description:
The Green Pack House is a two-and-one-half story, asymmetrical massing, clapboard sheathed, Queen Anne-style home. It has cross-bracing, and a multi gabled roof, with a wrap-around porch, and variety of window types and sizes.
Statement of Significance:
During the last quarter of the nineteenth century, Green Pack established the Pack Woods Company in the Oscoda area to tap the region's rich timber resources. Pack constructed a large lumbering complex that included 110 tenement houses for his mill hands, company stores, and other buildings to serve the religious and recreational needs of his workers. Additionally, the Pack Woods company was engaged in the manufacture for salt and owned six wells producing 400 barrels per day at the peak of operations. Pack built his residence across the road from his lumber mill in 1878.
