General Winfield Scott Hancock (February 14, 1824 - February 9, 1886) was a career U.S. army officer who served with distinction as a Union general in the American Civil War, noted in particular for his personal leadership in the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863.
Hancock was born in Montgomeryville, Pennsylvania, and died in Governors Island, New York. He was buried in Mongomery Cemetery in Norristown, Pennsylvania.
