The Bedford Meetinghouse was built in 1838 as the first Methodist Meetinghouse in the community of Liberty. During the next 40-year the Methodist Congregation continued to grow and eventually move into a larger building. In 1886 the building was rededicated at the St. Phillip’s Episcopal Church and became a place with former slaves could worship and educated their children. The building has been restored by the Bedford Historical Society, and is open to the public by appointment.
