First - bridge across the Willamette River was located at the foot of W. Morrison Street. Dedicated April 12, 1887, the wood truss swing span bridge was the longest bridge west of the Mississippi.

First - bridge across the Willamette River was located at the foot of W. Morrison Street. Dedicated April 12, 1887, the wood truss swing span bridge was the longest bridge west of the Mississippi. It was operated manually by two men on calm days; four men when it was windy. It was a one way toll bridge. Fare: Horse drawn rig 15 cents, Team of horses 20 cents, and Pedestrian 5 cents. It became toll free in 1895.
