Tuly is a local nicknmae.
Ever been out in the Tulies?
I been there a time or 2.
This is our favorite route to take between New Mexico and Missouri.
I can remember when 54 was so rough it would bounce you almost out of your truck.
Major improvements have done this route well.
And we still continue to travel it often.
The Tularosa Basin has been occupied by Indian groups for thousands of years. The first Hispanic settlers moved here from the Rio Grande Valley in 1862.
Anglo settlers and cattlemen began moving into the region in the 1870s. The original 1862 town site has been designated a State and National Historic District. Tularosa appears as "Oasis" in the novels of Eugene Manlove Rhodes.
