Paraje De Fra Cristobal - Historical Marker - New Mexico Historical Markers on Waymarking.com

The mountain range seen along the east bank of the Rio Grande is named after Father Cristobal de Salazar of the 1598 Juan de Onate expedition.
An encampment at the northern edge of the mountain, whose profile is said to resemble that of the good friar, was a place of rest for caravans on El Camino Real as they entered or exited the Jornada del Muerto.

This is always one of our stops along I-25.
As I get older I find the need of Rest Areas a little more often than usual and with 3 Geo*girls...well you know how that goes.

We had lunch here with about 100 soldiers who stopped while we were here.
GEO*girls got their first MRE ration and thought that was pretty cool to have meal ready to eat.So I explained why they do it that way for being a prepared soldier.
They were headed to advanced training at White Sands.
They were all older soldiers and many wounded as well.

We went around and thanked them all for their service to our Nation.
Told all we could about Waymarking and Use of the GPS.
Had a great chat with some of the Officers.
